Candace Smith, AIA, brings over 25 years of experience to this firm, from interning under the guidance of the late Floyd Johnson, FAIA, at the older Charlottesville firm of Johnson Craven & Gibson to partnering to form the firm of Smith Garrett Architects in 1990. Smith Garrett's projects ranged from small-scale residential renovations to large-scale institutional projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm of Candace M.P. Smith Architect, PC specializes in new home design as well as alterations and additions with one-on-one contact with the client. We are a small firm dedicated to our client's needs, with a talented staff to attend to all stages of the architectural process.
Awards and publications earned by Candace Smith include features in local publication such as Albemarle Magazine, and an "Outstanding" award for a kitchen addition featured in Washington Spaces Early Winter 2008. Other awards earned while principal at Smith Garrett Architects includes a Merit Award for Design Excellence, AIA Central Virginia 2002, and Southern Living Presentation Award, Southern Home Awards 2003 for a "Farmhouse Addition" (Preservation Architect: Frazier and Associates; Addition Details: Candace Smith).
In addition Candace Smith served on the Albemarle County Architectural Review Board from 2001 to 2008 (Chairman 2004-2007), was President of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Section of the AIA James River Chapter (1995) and is a founding member of the AIA Central Virginia Chapter (1998).
